STREET CHIC: SWEAT IN STYLE

{lauren conrad} {nicole richie}
Call me crazy, but I appreciate incorporating fashion into every outlet of life, including exercise...good style requires looking effortless, and what should look more effortless then what you wear to the gym?

A few weeks ago I finally acted on my new years resolution and joined a local gym in Brentwood and therefore have been adding more leggings, hoodies, and tissue tees to my wardrobe; here is some noteworthy gym style from some in shape and in style celebrities...Lauren Conrad looks cute and comfy in a pink hoodie, Nicole Richie embraces the Free City brand, which is kind of like the LA version of what the rest of America considers Victoria's Secret Pink, and Reese Witherspoon is bright and bubbly in purple...love the pop of color with black leggings...
{nicole richie}
Nicole Richie (above+below) accessorizes in a simple way with a jean jacket, colorful scarf, shades and trendy handbag...she is a style icon of mine, even when she hits the gym...

I love Lauren Conrad's (above, left) cute ponytail, Amanda Seyfried's (middle) preppy striped sweater, and Kristin Cavallari's (right) loose top layered over a tank...great gym chic inspiration!

HONORED STYLE: SAG AWARDS CHIC

{image credit}
The Screen Actors Guild Awards was a nice finish to a great weekend in LA, the weather has been nothing short of beautiful, breezy and warm, all in the month of January, completely unheard of in my hometown of Chicago...

As always, the fun part of these award shows for me it seeing fashion move from the runway to the red carpet, onto the familiar faces in entertainment...I must say, however, my first choice last night was not a nominated actress but rather the lovely E! newscaster, Giuliana Rancic (above) in a completely fashion forward, red and gold embellished gown by Basil Soda...I am in love with the whole look, the gold statement necklace and belt are the perfect accessory without overdoing it, this reminds me of why I love fashion props to Giuliana!
{image credit}
Angelina Jolie (above) shines in everything and anything, including this slinky, black metallic Jenny Packham gown, very simple, bold and sexy, just like herself...I had to include this close up, she looks flawless...no need for a bold accessory; not when you have Brad Pitt on your arm...
{1} {2}
Ashlee Simpson (above) also in a black gown by Jenny Packham, went in a slightly different direction, but a very glamorous one nonetheless; the beading and tool is so pretty! The whole look has a interesting gothic-chic-glamorousness to it, I have not seen much of Ashley Simpson's style lately, but I think this seems very her from what I remember, and I am intrigued to see more of her soon!
{image credit}
Next to Giuliana Rancic in Basil Soda, Kristen Wiig (above) in a greyish-cream Balenciaga gown is my second favorite of last night's SAG awards! When I first caught a glimpse of her I only saw a top shot of the choker necklace/halter neckline and thought "oh dear, what was she thinking?!" but once I saw the full body shot I realized this was so fresh and pretty, she looks very sophisticated, but more importantly, she looks like herself and found a gown that represents who she is rather then who a stylist is telling her to be, I absolutely love the clean and smart simplicity; perfection on the red carpet...
{1} {2} {3}
For the all the glitz and glamour young hollywood has to offer on the red carpet, Naya Rivera (above, left) in Naeem Khan, Zoe Saladana (middle) in Givenchy Haute Couture, and Rose Byrne (right) in Elie Saab Haute Couture reinforced all the heaving beading, shiny fabrics, and ethereal style every actress should embody at least once on the red carpet...especially with the added risk taken by Zoe and Rose, jumpsuits are hard to pull off, and even though I am iffy about the undershirt tank on Zoe Saldana, the dress itself is so stunning and fit for her supermodel made figure!

Can't wait for the Oscar's,

DREAM ESTATE: COLOR BLOCK

I found the interior of this Chicago home on Traditional Home magazine's website and instantly fell in love! Not just because it is my hometown city of Chicago, but also because the color blocking is amazing!

Creating a space that incorporates orange, purple and seafoam sounds almost ridiculous, however, nothing is ridiculous when done right; anything is possible!
The interior decorator, Melanie Elston, created a fun and slightly spunky color palate in a really traditional sense; the moldings, furniture, and flooring have been given a wonderful flair with the bold colors and eclectic fabric prints...
Purple and Orange are not colors I have ever attempted to mix; I adore them separately, but I have never thought to put them together, however, this chair (above right) is so cool with the velvet orange inside cushions and violet paisley print exterior, all bound together with a classic nailhead trim, love it!

I don't really understand why I like the entryway between the orange sitting room and seafoam sitting room, but I do...the colors are so completely different but somehow it works (above, left)...
The seafoam sitting room (above) is cool, fit for a cocktail party; love the Missoni-esque fabric on the sitting chairs...
I adore this portion of the seafoam sitting room (above, left)...it is simple and chic, the silver, blue and green easily compliment one another and the lucite side tables and velvet sofa with fringe detailing add the perfect amount of luxe...

This clock and country wallpaper combination is original and a certainly a risk taker that proved right! A nice transition into the hallway and darker walls of the home....

CLASSIC CHIC: PREP PRETTY

{image credit}
A pivotal component of the Classic style is PREP....as a middle schooler, "prep" was my label, I didn't really know what that meant, however, I did like Ralph Lauren girl very much...

Now, PREP style has taken a backseat to my overwhelming drive to be fashion forward, yet I remain loyal to the simplicity of a preppy look, some days I just want to feel comfortable and effortless; the core of Classic style...I would define Prep as Classic style overdone, but overdone in a good way of course...
{image credit}
When I hear the word "prep," I think of the East Coast, equestrians, ivy league schools, WASP's...oh and Blair Waldorf...
{image credit}
Tommy Hilfiger & Ralph Lauren...
{image credit}
{image credit}
I love the ensemble prep cast in every Tommy Hilfiger advertisement (above), it's as if they are welcoming you into a club of cool plaid...in the Hamptons
{1} {2}
Preppy colors usually include, but are not limited to, Red, White and Blue...patriotism and British influence at it's best...
{1} {2} {3}
Kate Middleton (above) is a great example...as is Olivia Palermo and Reese Witherspoon (below) all quite preppy in a navy blazer...

I really like how each made the piece their own, very original! My personal favorite is Olivia's look (below, left) the military jacket is classic but the leather leggings give it some freshness...a simple top and neutral shoes keep it effortless...

Preppy is not how I would define my personal style, but I must say, it is what I look for in a man...

DESIGNER SPOTLIGHT: MATTHEW WILLIAMSON

It may not yet be Spring, however, in fashion, it is time to look towards Fall...

Browsing through the 2012 Pre-Fall designer collections I found much inspiration, one of my favorites this coming season is Matthew Williamson....with highly saturated colors, bold prints, and an overall look I like to call "fun sophistication," Williamson's line is relatable to me and my work style...each piece in this collection is equally as beautiful as one another, yet cohesive worn together...here are my favorite looks...

This dress (above) is amazing! The gold/yellow color and beading make it a tad bohemian chic, I feel as if Nicole Richie or Kate Hudson would wear a dress like this...

Lately I have been noticing many pants done in metallic fabrics and I really like the trend...especially when it has some color, I feel as if it adds a subtle flair to more serious looking items, such as these cropped trousers (above & below)...plus the fur jacket is divine!

I cannot say enough great things about this emerald green jacket (above)...I want it in my closet! I feel as if buying colorful jackets is often a challenge because it usually means investing in one trend/color, however I would like to break the mold! No more neutral or black outerwear for me!

Printed pants are another difficult purchase because it is scary to commit to just one pattern, however if you feel very excited and drawn to one in particular, just go with it! Challenge your style!

This is one great print I would like to challenge my wardrobe with (above)...granted it is a dress, however I think it could be worn many times, with tights or a blazer or a fur jacket, even with a cardigan at the office...when you love a print, you will make it work!

This last look (above) pretty much incorporates all the elements of this collection that really sparked my interest, the colors are present in a sophisticated way, not overdone, but not unseen...the jacket and pants are luminescent!

Bravo,

DREAM ESTATE: CHIC SLEEP

{1} {2}
Either I am secretly wishing to redecorate my bedroom or am just getting sleepy, either way, I am loving these bedrooms...talk about CHIC SLEEP....

Blue is such a rich color, that most people love, perhaps it reminds us all of beachy destinations and certainly has a calming effect, a cool vibe I cannot get enough of! This room (above, left) does a great job of creating diversity in shapes, patterns and textures, while maintaining an easy color scheme....As a huge fan of fur throws on beds, I admire the modern-chicness of this room (above right)...

{image credit}
A great use of color here (above)...the abstract art is bold, just like the wall color and the nailhead detailed headboard...

Pinned Image
{image credit}
Yellow and gold is one of my favorite color combinations, and this room (above) screams one of my absolute favorite interior decorators, Kelly Wearstler; this space is extremely cohesive, yet has many bold accents to keep it from being too much of the same...that patterned bench is amazing!

Pinned Image
{image credit}
This (above) is quite eclectic and completely my taste! The frames are spaced perfectly, the gold/black accents complement one another, as well as the orange bedspread...and the fur pillows give this space just the right amount of luxe and warmth!

Stay warm and cozy,

-M. Gisele
